A decaying sinusoid (or damped sine wave) is a sinusoid whose oscillations decrease over time. It is a function that is used to model several phenomena.
Nevertheless, there has been no scientific use of this function in my compositional work: it is only the poetic association between a very concrete and “natural” word/symbol and a totally abstract and “artificial” word/symbol that gives the title of the piece its raison d’être.
Here I continue my work around a series of pieces for solo instrument and electronics: these pieces have in common the desire to re-invent (from its Latin etymology of ‘finding’) an acoustic instrument, in a totally unexpected ‘place’. This has the effect of putting the listener in a position of disbelief and of resetting his or her prejudices about the instrument in question.

This artificial place where this effect can take shape is indeed the non-human, the synthetic, the borderline zone between the credibility of the physical (of the instrument and the instrumentalist on stage), and the disbelief generated by dis/torsions of our implicit expectations.
There is a semantic violence in relation to the perceptive codes of listening that attracts me more and more, and which is also at the center of this piece.
It is moreover even more “electronic” than the previous ones: its non-instrumental part being entirely composed of synthesized sounds that move the instrumental as far as possible from its physical “comprehensibility”.
