Flag was composed in 1987 for the soloists of the Carme ensemble at the request of this formation. The starting point of this work is not a pre-existing musical object but a situation, whose sound transposition draws an imaginary figure that is almost narrative. Without attempting to illustrate the purely acoustic meaning that the term figure has taken in the compositional process, it must nevertheless be admitted that musical gestures sometimes transform into characters in a mental theatre piece in which the composer necessarily uses formal conventions to present the dramatic action.
