Cousins gather around a table and parody family meals. As usual among the French, they talk about food at the same time as they eat. Their discussions are an opportunity to address the question of production and distribution channels, their aberrations, and to amplify in a comical, incredible way the stories they have heard and from which they invent (galéjades).

Contes d'ici et d'ailleurs

Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 7pm - Théâtre du Toursky (Marseille)

Libretto: Alice Pfister, Music: Thomas Keck, for 4 professional musicians, child reciters, children's choirs at school and orchestra at school.

In partnership with Prodig'art, the Association Orchestre à l'école, the CFMI of the University of Aix-Marseille and the support of the Bouches-du-Rhône Departmental Council, the DRAC PACA and the City of Marseille

Supported by the Conseil Général des Bouches du Rhône, the DRAC PACA, the City of Marseille, the SACEM and the l’«Orchestre à l’École» association, Ensemble C Barré and Prodig'art have joined forces with Saint Just Centre 1 Primary School (13th arrondissement) and Alexandre Dumas College (14th arrondissement) to create an orchestra at the school from the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, which they will accompany for a three-year cycle (CM1, CM2 and 6ème).

Saint Just Centre 1 Public Elementary School welcomes Cycle 3 students from the Saint Just district (13th arrondissement of Marseille). Most of these students then enter Alexandre Dumas College. Collège Alexandre Dumas is located in the "Quartiers Nord", at the intersection of the 3rd, 4th, 13th and 14th arrondissements of Marseille, mainly disadvantaged districts.

The two establishments have been using ECLAIR for several years and will move to REP+ in the new school year 2015. For a long time, the two teams have been working very closely together as a network, so many inter-degree projects have been and are still being carried out.

For the start of the 2015 academic year, in line with the new definition of cycle 3 of fundamental learning, which now includes CM1, CM2 and 6e de collège, the headmistress of the school (Annie Biesmans) and the principal of the collège (Guillaume Longuet) wanted to initiate an orchestra class project that would be a new bridge between their schools, the pupils starting this activity in CM1 to continue it until 6e.

The orchestra is composed of 18 mandolins, 10 cellos and 5 percussionists who will have the chance to share a vast instrumental park.

Our choice was made according to several criteria. First of all, it seemed important to us that the instructors have an obvious ability to captivate children during group instrument and orchestra lessons in order to guide them in a work that is at the same time pleasant, fulfilling and demanding. Similarly, they must already have extensive experience in this field, they must be able to juggle several modes of oral or written learning and finally, their instrument must also be represented in the professional staff of Ensemble C Barré in order to encourage future exchanges and meetings with students.

In addition, the history of the mandolin has strongly influenced the musical life of Marseille, and this instrument is currently experiencing a rapid expansion within the city. His repertoire of surprisingly varied musical styles will allow us to approach a wide range of works.

The orchestra thus constituted makes it possible to divide all the strings into 4 desks, in the manner of a string orchestra, and thus to encourage any work of composition and arrangement. On the other hand, the rich instrumental percussion park will have an immediate appeal for the students, and will make it possible to highly enrich the orchestration of all the works worked on during the three years of orchestra.

It seems important to us that students practice a variety of musical styles. Throughout the three-year cycle we will offer compositions by Vincent Beer-Demander, mandolin teacher and conductor, notably winner of the Logrono International Composition Competition (Spain). He will also design arrangements that cover the field of song, traditional music, classical and contemporary music.

At the same time, each year we will offer students a musical creation specially designed for them by a composer and a librettist who will regularly accompany them in their work throughout the year. The chosen composers will introduce themselves at the beginning of the school year and will conduct improvisation and invention workshops with the students (supervised by C Barré's musicians), from which they will be able to compose a score adapted to the orchestra's capacities.

These musical shows will each time involve professional musicians from Ensemble C Barré, choirs of high school students as well as choirs at school prepared by trainees from the CFMI of Aix en Provence. These major events will be part of Ensemble C Barré's annual program, and will aim at a highly professional quality of production.
